Cell Performance Simulation Engineer

Your job duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and execute electrochemical simulations to analyze cell performance, degradation, and lifetime behavior.
  • Model cell dynamics, electrode kinetics, transport phenomena, and aging mechanisms using physics-based and data-driven approaches.
  • Conduct parametric studies and sensitivity analyses to optimize battery chemistry and design.
  • Validate simulation models with experimental data, refining models for accuracy and predictive capabilities by closely collaborating with the testing department
  • Collaborate with cell developers and system engineers to translate simulation insights into design improvements.
  • Support material selection and formulation optimization for anode, cathode, and electrolyte compositions.
  • Perform thermal-electrochemical coupling simulations to assess heat generation and dissipation in battery cells.
  • Utilize commercial and open-source simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, Ansys, GT-Autolion, MATLAB, Python).
  • Contribute to design verification plans (DVPs) and ensure alignment with product development milestones.
  • Document methodologies, results, and findings in technical reports and present insights to cross-functional teams.

Position requirements:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Material Science or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrochemical modeling and simulation of Lithium-Ion battery cells.
  • Strong understanding of electrochemical thermodynamics, kinetics, and transport phenomena in battery cells.
  • Proficiency in multi-physics simulation tools such as COMSOL, Ansys Fluent, GT-Autolion, or similar software.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages for model development and automation.
  • Knowledge of battery degradation mechanisms, SEI formation, lithium plating, and thermal behavior.
  • Familiarity with cell testing and validation methods for model calibration.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets and generate meaningful insights for product development.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills for documenting results and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • C1-level English proficiency for effective communication and technical reporting.
