Cell Design Engineer

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Cell Design Engineer to lead the development and optimization of prismatic lithium-ion battery cells. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in battery materials, electrode design, and manufacturing processes, with a focus on enhancing cell performance, efficiency, and reliability.

Your job responsibilities will include:

  • Cell Design and Optimization: Lead the design and optimization of prismatic lithium-ion battery cells, considering factors such as electrode materials, electrolyte composition, cell geometry and assembly techniques.
  • Material Selection and Evaluation: Collaborate with material scientists and suppliers to evaluate and select optimal materials for electrodes, separators and electrolytes, balancing performance, cost and sustainability considerations.
  • Electrode Design and Manufacturing: Design electrodes with optimum loading and tailored microstructures to optimize energy and power densities, enhance cycling stability, and minimize degradation mechanisms such as lithium plating and electrode cracking.
  • Impact analysis: Provide a detailed engineering analysis of the impact on the prismatic cell overall performance when using a different component or material.
  • Thermal Management: Develop innovative thermal management strategies to mitigate heat generation and improve thermal dissipation within prismatic cells, ensuring safe and reliable operation under various conditions.
  • Manufacturability and Scale-Up: Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure that cell designs are optimized for high-volume production, with considerations for assembly automation,process yield, and quality control.
  • Performance Characterization: Establish testing protocols and conduct comprehensive performance characterization of prismatic cells, including capacity testing, cycle life evaluation, rate capability assessment, and impedance analysis.

Position Requirements:

  •  Graduated faculty in Chemical, Physical, Technological, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with electrode formulation, electrolyte selection, and cell manufacturing processes.
  • Expertise in thermal management strategies for lithium-ion cells.
  • Experience with performance characterization techniques such as capacity testing, life cycle evaluation, and impedance spectroscopy.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and scale-up considerations for battery cell production.
